My main complaint is with their technical support -- if you can even call it that. Having already installed the basic version on my new desktop, I uninstalled it using the uninstall option under the Pinnacle software. Rebooted and tried to install the Ultimate version.
Much to my chagrin it reinstalled the basic version! Tried it again, this time going into Windows Explorer and deleting any folders and files with Pinnacle in the name.
Then it said it was missing critical files for the installer and I would need to reinstall the installer. Tried that, but the installer on the installation disc for the Ultimate version said that an "updated" installer was already loaded and the installer that came with the Ultimate version would not be installed. Then I was able to successfully install the Ultimate version. Turns out my copy of the Ultimate version, even though purchased 5 months after the basic version, had an older "installer" software attached to it.
At any rate, after updating the free on-line patch, the software works perfectly. I intentionally did not mention their technical support in the scenario above, because they were absolutely no help whatsoever. First, you have to "register" the product on-line, even though it would not install.
You get a "customer care" number. You have to set up a user name and they give you a password. Then they e-mail you a "support code" required to take advantage of your ONE free technical support question. I submitted the problem via e-mail and was assigned a case number. An automated replay issued me a PIN number.
Several hours later I received an e-mail instructing me to follow a certain set of steps. Unfortunately, the folders referenced in the e-mail did not exist, and the steps did not solve the problem. But they did not tell me what to do if it did not work.
I went to the website and clicked on "check the status" of my submitted question. It had to send me a link via e-mail with a new password, but when I checked, there were no comments from technical support and still aren't two weeks later.
I replied to the original e-mail from support and two days later got a reply. By that time, I had figured out how to do it myself. Some support. And from here on out I have to PAY for it! Hopefully you will purchase the Ultimate version, install it without a problem, and enjoy using this fabulous software. Be forewarned, however, that if you have to contact their technical support, you would do better consulting a medium! I have used earlier versions and while I have not found any of them to be intuitive, this is clearly the most difficult to use of all I have had.
The one I originally got from Amazon had a problem it was the seller not Amazon's fault and Amazon made it right , but I did not install that one. I purchased another copy locally and installed. I found a "bug" that causes the program to quit responding if you do not check the "eject when finished" button when burning a DVD from an image. I reported it, and Corel opened a problem report, sent me an email with some things to try, then rapidly sent a couple of "did this fix it?
I was away on travel, so when I returned and saw the "we are closing this if we don't hear from you" email, I responded, only to find that the email address they sent the notice to had been removed from their system. Their "warranty" will only allow for one free support, so- I used up my warranty in attempting to notify them of a bug.
They are extremely difficult to contact, and you can buy a new product for about the same as they charge for tech support. I will probably never buy another Corel product. Just like everyone says -- there is NO customer service support and the program doesn't work so hot. Well, I can't get any of the projects on the iPad to export -- the iPad app crashes every time I try, no matter which method I try -- which means I can't get anything on the desktop to use.
You can't export from the desktop to the iPad, either When I contacted customer service with my day one-free-question window they gave me nonanswers and circular talk. Horrible company experience. FWIW, the iMovie iPad app is even cheaper and pretty easy to use if you use primarily Apple products to take videos -- my problem was that I couldn't figure out how to get my Samsung phone videos and my Canon camera videos on there. At least there was no problem like that with the Pinnacle app.
Purchased this product even after reading all the negative reviews on the internet because I had an okay experience with Pinnacle Out of the box I installed the program only to find it would not stop loading when activated and would then stop responding. My computer has a high end video card, 8 Gigs of memory and a duel core processor, however when this program is activated, the CPU max's out and nothing works. As the program access to registration didn't work, I registered online as this is the only way to get your 14 days of customer service.
The only way to contact the support team is via email which they are very slow to respond to. When they responded, they gave many links for "fixes" most of which were no longer active and the ones I did load removed all data so a reinstall of the original non-working program had to be done again. After sending them screen shots of what looked to be Russian language on a pop-up, I asked support if this could be black market.
They responded that they don't sell to Amazon and I should purchase the program from their website. They also then stated the case was closed and my 14 day warranty was almost expired. It is Garbage with a capital "G!!! I owned an earlier version of this product and was very happy with it so I thought I would purchase a newer version that was 64bit. After several installation attempts with not one but 2 patches one being aprox mgs ; I felt I had done my diligence and I wanted to talk to someone at tech support.
So, with this really unfriendly and unprofessional way of handling their customers I am returning this software and I will not purchase any other software from them in the future as long as the current system is in place.

I've used Pinnacle Studio since v7 and this is the first version I wish I could return.
I've had various issues with HD videos. I can't seem to find any modern capture hardware that isn't from Pinnacle that this recognizes, so I can't use the capture cards I want to use. The whole "Import" and "Export" concept is not intuitive, in part because you're not really importing or exporting anything.
I find the libraries are absolutely terrible to work with, I can't find anything easily. I think I'll go back to v14 until I can find something better or the new owners turn it around. And I still think, as I did with Avid, that this package is a little more than the complete video novice will be able to handle. But what you get for the price is amazing, and the interface and performance improvements will make existing customers upgrade for sure.

Whatever you need to access concerning Pinnacle can be done in Pinnaclesys. The 50gig free Box account you get will allow you to upload files up to 2gigs. BUT, they can be copied over from Avid Studio and work just fine.

TonyP You are correct…. Corel is indeed the owner of the Pinnacle line now. I communicated with Corel folks several times regarding this product, so that mistake is a pretty big one.
Thanks for catching that. I am glad that you make the reference to Avid Studio. Especially after buying it! Some people just want to edit the family vacation. Studio15 was easy to use and great for that. Some people can not make the transition. I guess Corel was leaning on the marketing value of the Pinnacle Studio name. Re timeline zooming — I did not know you could grab the end of the timeline scroll bar to zoom, until you mentioned this I clicked and dragged in the timeline just above it.
Studio 1. Corel have made a whole bunch of unlisted changes to Studio 1. Paul, I too have griped about the quality of the titles. What is missing is the Classic Titler from legacy Studio.
The old Title Deko that made working with Titles so much faster and easier, along with producing a better output. I still think that a zoom slider makes the most sense and from a usability standpoint, most users would recognize that. There is plenty of room in the toolbar above the timeline for it, so it is just a matter of them putting one there. The Titler in all previous versions of PS worked just fine.
Sreve You may be right in that it's not intuitive but, like all things, once learnt it's OK and some, like me, may prefer it. Not that I'd object to a zoom slider as you describe — so long as it was added as opposed to substituted.

Excellent review as I have always used Pinnacle for editing this has given me a clear picture of the upgrade, but I have just bought a new higher spec 64 bit computer and a Panasonic HC-X camera. Will I be able to load the video direct into Studio through a USB 3 port as the camera does not have a firewire connection on it? If so I will purchase it. Thanks for the info. What I would suggest to you Richard is to download the trial version first before making the purchase.

Download the trial and wear it out to make sure it does what you need. I just bought this product due to an issue I was having making movies in the simple Windows Movie Maker — issue being the program would not read the video in my.

Plenty of good people there willing to help out others. I enjoy using the software and use it almost daily. Hoping for continued improvements from Corel in the future! Okay, so now my only problem is that I do not know what program to open the downloaded free trial file in. I do not really have anything close to what it is on my Windows 7 computer.
The set up of existing Pinnacle accounts and the new ownership by Corel is a total shambles. Different user names and passwords for your account, the store and technical support. The new owners of Pinnacle are turning a well supported product into total chaos. Shame on you Corel!! Peter T, I can totally understand your pain in this. The migration from Avid to Corel should have been done a long time ago.
Give it a shot at least. I still use my original user name and password that I have had since DV and Studio 8 days. There are those that can help. Also, try this phone number I hope it helps. The layout is done very nicely and I was able to see some extra FX that I needed to purchase separately in the earlier versions.
I needed help to solve a problem uninstalling the earlier Ultimate 14 from my Laptop the every time I boot it up it gives me an several error codes that is very annoying, I tried to get help for almost three days and it is totally impossible being directed to Pinnacle to obtain a service code number then be directed to Corel and back and forth with no phone support, I even called a listed support that was disconnected, this is a total nightmare.
I got refunded and may wait until Corel totally implement the Pinnacle setup into their program. Hopefully it will get better in the future but for now, do yourself a favor and avoid Pinnacle 16 like a plague. Reggmail Sorry to hear about your troubles. I still stand by my review of the software, and I still use it often. You say PS16U is the worst but give no real reasons why. Yes, there are bugs with the program and they have been reported. The Forum Moderators are keeping up with issues that can be reproduced. So exactly, why is PS16 Ultimate terrible? As for your inability to uninstall S14, that can be from many many factors that are not related to S14 but your computer. You failed to give what errors you get.
I have had Studio since version 8, so I pre-date you on the usage of Pinnacle software. IF you really want help, then stop by the Pinnacle user forums, log in and make a post with as much detailed information that you have. Saying I get errors does not help. Give the error code and what it says. Recently you requested assistance from Avid Customer Success.

As a result, all Studio related queries should be addressed directly to them. In fact, being with Pinnacle as long as I have should prove that. Being a music producer I have used many programs over the years and most companies respond and help solve your issue, without hoop jumping.
Pinnacle at this transitional time for me was the worst costumer service I have dealt with in years. Then they direct you to the forum where helpful people at times use trial and error options that may work and sometimes can make matters worst. I truly hope that Pinnacle 17 if they continue the brand have better technical service people will deal with issues and not pass them off.
Remail, first, Avid has not owned Pinnacle since last year, so you are writing to the wrong people. The links they sent you should work. Also, the link to the webforum is best to try and get help. In general, run a registry cleaner after uninstalling will remove bits and pieces left in the registry by just about every program.
I use Ccleaner which is free. For further help, go by the Pinnacle forums. Thank you for your response Tony P. As I mentioned in the response before, I did notify Corel the owner of Pinnacle 16 and was not successful after many tries. That is why I got frustrated. As I also stated earlier for the time that the ownership changed hands, the customer technical department response, should be just as accurate and efficient as the sales department.
In my experience, at this time that is not the case. Remail, looking at the location of those files, they are in the temp folder. I have a couple of suggestions.
See if when it finishes analyzing that those links show up. If not, since it is a temp folder, rename them something else. Then you can go to that directory and do the renaming.

Mine is still in the vacuum sealed blister pack. Stephanie… ok… I have the size of the green screen. Especially if doing upper body shooting. I have used my green screen numerous times, and like Tony P said it is good for a shot from the waist up. The only difficult part is stretching the green screen properly so that there are no wrinkles or folds, and lighting the subject properly.
Would you tell me how to make it work? My video is recorded to SD cards. I create a folder on my computer for the video. Dump all the video there. ADD the new folder and you will see the assets being added in the lower right corner. Let me know what happens. Any hints for this jump in versions? I read above and am in process at this moment in downloading the trial version. You mentioned some enhancements that should be loaded before you start. Can I load these on a trail version?
Or do I need to get the full version first? In Studio 7 I think I bought a bunch of effects…Will they all be found, etc? I remember one upgrade where I had to get all my Keys re-entered. Answer what you can, I am not too concerned overall…I am sure I will love it…. I would strongly suggest you look at the online tutorials by Class on Demand. This will give you an idea of how to use the software. It is really Avid Studio V2. I would suggest you download the 30day trial and give it a go.
